Migraine foods to avoid
Do you know that some of your favorite foods can be the cause of migraines?
There are many reasons why a person has a migraine, or a
frequent type of headache that causes severe and suffocating pain on one or
both sides of the head, nausea, and vomiting. Factors such as heredity,
hormones, stress, lack of sleep and lifestyle have a role in migraine. But some
studies show that if someone has migraines after eating, they may be affected
by certain foods. Doctors believe that short changes in brain activity lead to
a headache, affecting blood vessels and nerve signals
.
Tyramine is a dietary compound you may want to stay away
from in your diet plan. This
It is produced in non-fresh, but fermented and stored foods
for a long period of time. Our body contains enzymes that help break down
tyramine, and low enzymes aggravate headaches when taking tyramine. It is recommended
to stick to fresh foods and monitor a low-tyramine diet to prevent migraines.
Foods that provoke migraines
Meat and poultry. Dried and salted meat such as pepperoni,
salami, sausage, hot dog, smoked pork, liver, aged chicken liver, soups and broth
of meat broth;
Smoked fish, pickled or dried herring, caviar;
Aged cheeses such as blue, brick, fresh cheddar, Swiss
cheese, roquefort, stilton, mozzarella, provolone;
Fruits and vegetables. Snowy peas, fava beans, broad beans,
pickled cabbage, pickles, olives, tofu, kimchi, raw onions, citrus fruits,
bananas, pineapple, figs, raisins, papaya, avocado, and red peaches;
Nuts. Peanuts, walnuts, pecans, peanut butter, pankin seeds,
sesame seeds;
Drinks. Foods that are high in caffeine such as chocolate,
coffee, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages such as tap beer, red wine and
wine. All these must be taken in limited quantities only.
Sour cream (no more than half a cup per day); miso, soy
sauce, teriyaki sauce;
Ingredients on food labels. Large amounts of monosodium
glutamate (MSG), nitrates and nitrites, industrial sweeteners, yeast (found in
bread and pizza dough), yeast extracts, beer yeast, hydrolyzed or autolysed
yeast, meat extracts, meat providers.
Trying to avoid these migraines can be difficult because
many people enjoy them every day. However, not all foods listed will cause
migraines for everyone, and foods on the list may also not lead to migraines
for some individuals. It is advisable to keep a journal and keep track of what
you eat and your daily activities, which certainly helps to identify the causes
of migraines.
Diet and hypoglycemia
Outside the scope of a low tyramine diet, eating sugar-rich
foods can cause reactive low blood sugar, a condition associated with low blood
sugar levels. When a person eats too much sugar, the body overproduces insulin
which causes the blood sugar level to drop, causing migraines and headaches.
Because lifestyle plays a role in the development of tension
headaches, monitoring a restricted diet such as skipping meals and fasting can
be a major cause of migraines, also due to reactive hypoglycemia and loss of
important nutrients. If you are aiming to lose weight, check with your doctor's
advice.
